MMI
Immi Watch
IMMI Watch is a low-cost, battery-powered digital watch that discreetly tracks the menstrual cycle without an app. Developed for contexts where smartphones or data are not reliable or appropriate, the watch is being used with UNFPA in programmes that pair simple, privacy-preserving tracking with participatory learning in schools and communities. Data are stored on the device and can be wiped by the user, supporting safety and autonomy in low-connectivity settings.
Mission
IMMI’s mission is to strengthen menstrual health literacy and agency by combining an accessible, app-free tool with structured education delivered through trusted partners. The approach prioritises confidence, preparedness and informed decision-making, while ensuring that girls and young women who lack smartphones or data can still access clear, actionable cycle information. Building on early success, UNFPA is extending the initiative across West and Central Africa; through the Cultivator, CGE is supporting a West Africa scale pathway to embed inclusive, locally led models.
Achievements
Six-month UNFPA pilots with around 250 participants in the Republic of Moldova and Burkina Faso reported significant knowledge gains. The share of participants who knew their expected period start date rose to 81% in Moldova and 82% in Burkina Faso, and awareness of fertile windows increased to 68% and 80% respectively. These programmes also reported improvements in confidence, body literacy and broader SRH understanding. UNFPA WCARO is now scaling the work region-wide, while CGE is supporting a social-franchising pilot to establish an in-region pathway to adoption.
